Research Proposals as “Interim Research Products”
We at Refigure are excited about the attention preprint and interim research products are getting. We have recently responded to a survey from the NIH (see image) about these important outputs and their place in scholarly communication. Here at Refigure, we consider the following to be interim research products (organized from the earliest stage to the latest stage of a typical research timeline):
1. A research proposal
2. An enabling method (like computer code used in an analysis)
3. Experimental data, with or without interpretation (like a single figure publication)
4. A preprint of a manuscript
